Education Vs. Reality Of Education On The Menominee Nation...

The Purpose of Education vs. the Reality of Education on the Menominee Nation Reservation â€Å"A number of our schools have been honored in recent years by national and state organizations for outstanding focus and commitment to learning; for solid academic test results; for attendance programs; for retention and graduation rates; and the list goes on and on.† On the website’s homepage of the school district that I attended since kindergarten, this statement is bolded to stand out to its readers. My mother has been an educator and teacher at the district’s primary school since I was in first grade. Before that, she was a teacher at the private Tribal school on the reservation I live on, and she was also a teacher in Lac da Flambo, another area which has a Native American population. She has been my inspiration my entire life. I can recall telling my teachers, friends, and family that I wanted to â€Å"be a teacher just like my mom† as far back as head start when I was only three years old. I would â€Å"play school† with my younge r cousin who lived with us at the time. Passing out worksheets, reading books, and doing addition and subtraction problems on the whiteboard were some of the things I would do to be just like my mom. I thought very highly about teachers and education; to me, being a teacher was the best profession to be in. As I got older, I started to look deeper into the idea of being an educator, and my desire to become a teacher grew. My mother had a huge
